Zine Project:
I am an active observer and participating in the conference as it speaks out for me to listen to understand, compose, and gain feedback from. Concepts are constructed from sound bits, over my laptop screen from videoed sequences that compose an unfolding narrative into my head and onto my notebook. The place where I sit, my kitchen, feels exciting as I scratch, scribble, and compose patterns into my paper notebook.
I also enjoy the sounds of the ink pen’s nib on the paper surface. I draw across the pages with a slight textural roughness in my finger and hand. The paper surface and the patterning, and marking, receive the ink. Circular shapes, positive space, and the framing negative space through the drawing process…. one, and another one and another as the talks develop.
I have felt inspired in this ASC event, and the wonderful words from Ranulph Glanville’s (2008) Conversation and Design are ever richer in my mind from where Ranulph writes:
“The roles are (giving precedence to the aural metaphor): listener (viewer) speaker (drawer) In a “normal” conversation each participant listens to others and speaks to them. But there are conversations in which one participant talks to himself. What is important in the conversation is not that there are two participants but rather two roles: that there is a listener role and a speaker role”.
